Career & Technical Education

Survey Center

The Office of Career and Technical Education (OCATE) is founded on the belief that a productive life includes meaningful work.

Our mission is to provide an educational system that will afford everyone the opportunity to receive relevant education, work readiness skills, and valued credentials that will prepare students for successful careers in a global economy. More than 13,000 high school students and 5,000 middle school students are enrolled in our programs.

Career and technical education is a vital part of the total education process of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. It is essential to every student's general education to provide opportunities for them to develop creatively, intellectually, and in manipulative areas. Career and technical education instruction provides for development of skills, technical knowledge, insights, attitudes, safety judgement, and related information essential to success in a student's chosen field of endeavor.

Our programs have been defined as "A series of applied learning methodologies designed to prepare our youth for productive citizenship and lifelong learning," with a primary purpose of developing a skilled workforce.
